NWS, AWS-DF Surfaces, Surfaces, Surfaces: Color and Design on a Variety of Surfaces Transparent and Opaque Watercolor Beginner to Advanced
This workshop will begin with exercises on various papers and other grounds, utilizing numerous techniques. Participants may bring reference photos and/or sketches. The focus will then be on creating paintings in both transparent and opaque watercolor (gouache), using the surface best suited to each individual’s conception, whether representational or non-representational. Joan has experimented on a variety of different types of painting surfaces. She has mastered a multitude of effects that can be achieved that are dependent upon the texture and degree of absorbency. Her own work, shows a delightful balance between fine representational drawing and improvisational abstract presentation Joan Ashley Rothermel, B.F.A., M.F.A., is an elected member of NWS and AWS Dolphin Fellow. She is the recipient of many major awards including both Gold and Bronze Medals from AWS.
